This poll will determine the winner of our 2008 Color Challenge in the category "Best Use of Color". Vote for your favorites, you will be allowed to vote in each poll only once and you will not be able to change your votes so make sure you vote for the correct entries the first time. :) Members will be able to vote for multiple entries. Guests will only be allowed to post one vote choosing one entry, duplicate posts will be disregarded.

****Keep in mind when voting in this category that entries should be judged based on their use of color. Did they use 4 of the 5 colors in the color palette? Which designer do you feel best portrays the colors in their chosen color palette and combines them in the most effective and striking way?

This design utilizes paint, fiber, wood, glass, metal and Polymer Clay in the design. Hand painted wood beads are accented by a hand tied Kumihimo braid. Polymer Clay was used as a form to to create the hand wrapped sterling silver end cones.

Wire-sculpted frame in 14k gold-filled square wire. A small hand-crafted dichroic cabochon prong-set into the design as the center of the butterfly body, a prong-set Swarovski crystal is the head. The wings are tubular twisted metallic glass beads, metallic seed beads and freshwater pearls. The lower body is made of rectangular raku beads. The leaves above the wings are sculpted from 14k gold-filled square wire embellished with tied swirls and czech crystals.

The body of the butterfly and the flowers were formed out of Polymer Clay, the butterfly wings were formed in copper and filled with Devcon and Easy Cast resins tinted using various shades of pigment. The butterflies antennae were made using 19 gauge black steel and various gauges of copper was used for the remainder of the wire details.

Artist created sterling silver butterfly and bezel set garnet cabochon connectors. Seed beads and cats eye beads were used for the strands.

12g double half round wire forms the frame, sterling silver and copper dividers, bezel wire was used to form the spots, the frame was then soldered and filled with pigmented resin. Peach aventurine twist beads & red aventurine round beads, green aventurine tubes and aquamarine rondelles. Linked with interlocked double jump rings attached to antiqued silver chain. Oxidized finish.

Artist hand cut and polished the cabochons used in this piece then set them along with a yellow citrine into a handcrafted sterling silver butterfly.

I do have a question, using sterling silver, does it tarnish? I have a beautiful sterling silver locket my DH gave me & it has tarnished.....we are both very upset about this.
