Our deck wraps around three sides of the house. One end has been blocked by a railing for many years. The other end is where we accessed the deck and is where we're now doing some remodeling.

The end that we've used for access all these years is now blocked off while a retaining wall and new steps are being added. The end that was blocked off by a railing has had the railing removed and is the new way we go on and off the deck.

Anyway, we figured it would take the dogs a while to figure out that things had changed. It did, but not as long as we thought - two days and they had it down. The humans, however, are having a difficult time figuring it out. A week later, the humans are still attempting to use the old access and are surprised every time they find it blocked. The dogs are starting to look at us funny at this point.

Have you ever had a situation where you wondered whether your fur kids were smarter than you?

:)

Constantly - everytime I go to put Sparks in his cage before going to work in the morning after his fly by - he looks at me before taking off like a jet plane with a look that says "yeah you're going to try and catch me again and put me in there??? When are you going to learn!!!"

However, when the kids go to put him away - he goes in straight away!

:laff: Caron, the parakeet pulls the same trick with my hubby. But he takes one last fly about, then hops right in when I go to put him away!

Every day! Cats looks at you like you're not the brightest bulb on the tree. They know secrets but won't tell unless they feel in a good mood.

I think animals are a whole lot smarter than most people give them credit. Sometimes it's frightening how clever they are. Dawn, it does seem to take us humans a while to adjust to change.

My cousin has a parrot and the other day she told it to go back in her cage and it said 'No' and wouldn't.

So true, Michele, so true.

Reminds me of the time we had a dog pen and hubby took it down so he could move some dirt with a tractor because the yard didn't drain quite right. He left the gate standing. Later that day, he went outside to feed the dogs, opened the gate and walked through it, fed the dogs, exited through the gate and latched it. Meanwhile, the dogs went around the gate and looked at him funny!

That is hilarious about your cousin's parrot, Melanie!
