Do you worry that your tables could fall off of the risers? I want to do this, but need something REALLY sturdy as I find that people can lean on the tables, and my tables aren't against a wall.

I was worried about the same thing. DH ended up using pieces of 4x4 wood and drilling the width of the legs about an inch into each one. They are good and heavy and keep everything very stable!

I think this with the drilled blocks may be what I (HUBBY!) do this weekend. Love the pvc pipe plan, but I have those fold in half tables and the legs come at a slant, so not sure that will work. May take my desired length to hardware store today and have them cut one set for me to try. I'll post how that works on this type of table if I do it.

I've got a show coming up on Friday with very little time to go scouting for supplies. I really wanted to raise my table up but wasn't sure how to go about it. The table is being provided by the show so are bed risers the way to go? And then what happens to the table cloth? Is it still long enough to reach the floor or do I need a custom skirt? If I can make this happen, I'd really like to - I hate the way a person has to lean over to see my jewelry :(

I'd say bed risers are your best bet since you don't know what the legs look like. As for coverage, I went to a fabric store and bought red broad cloth (because it's cotton, easy wash and cheap)it cost me $3 a meter. I had intended to make it into a skirt, but ran out of time so I just brought tape and taped it along the table then put my table cloth and velvet over that.

There was more then enough in the width of the broad cloth to go to the floor and cover everything underneath, and it added a splash of color without cluttering my table top. I also bought collapsible shoe racks and used them as risers along the back of my table...it gave two tiers to my table.

I didnt have any problems with the bed risers but I had the same thought as another poster and adding some wood "keepers" to prevent any possible slippage. I also bought a roll of the rubber shelf liner stuff and attached it to the bottom of each riser so it doenst want to scoot on a laminate or similar floor.

The shelf liner is an excellent idea! Well, my local Walmart doesn't carry them in the store and, according to the website, neither does my local Target but I'm going to check it out today. I REALLY wish I'd planned ahead better :paperbag: Anyone have any other suggestions for a local source?

Do you have a Christmas Tree Shops? I bought my first set there but they are only 4 to a set and round but oh so sturdy. I've seen them at Kmart but only 4 and they were priced for at least $12. The ones I showed in the link I think are only sold online at WM. You can find variations of them at several hardware stores including Menard's but they are VERY pricey. Look in the housewares dept at the big box stores and near the small appliances or mattresses at Menard's. Might also try Bed, Bath and Beyond but be prepared for a higher price. Good luck!

Congrats on the success, Laurie! I'm so glad to hear some of the suggestions helped. I'd love to see your risers!! And a corner space is a huge score...I would pay extra for one at most shows.

Alison, thank you so much for your perspective...you are obviously in a different league than I am, but I do 15-20 art shows (with a few craft shows smattered in) a year, and know exactly what you mean about your time being more valuable than material things. That was one reason I purchased a trailer this year to haul behind my SUV...sure I can pack everything in the car, but then I have to unpack it once I get home! On the other hand, if I load it in the trailer at the end of a show, all I have to do is park the trailer, and then I can go inside, put my feet up and not touch it again until the next show. Well worth the investment I made.

I've actually been considering a trailer for the past year...what size is yours? Where'd you purchase it?

DH found it for me on Craig's List. The guy who owned it had only used it 3 times, so it was like new. I love it. Mine is 5x10 and pulls along behind my Saturn VUE with no problem. (Kinda kills the gas mileage, but it's soooo worth it at the end of a long weekend when I only have to load my stuff once!)

Photos - the ramp is da bomb...I'm telling you. ;)

I'm going to have to go with Bed, Bath & Beyond and just suck up the extra expense. That's really the only other local option given my time constraints. Don't know why I didn't think of them before......oh yeah, cuz they're expensive!! I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks so much for the help and suggestions!!

Do you have a Bed Bath and Beyond near you? I think they carry them.

Sorry, I didn't read past your question.

I found them yesterday at Bed, Bath & Beyond - a little more than I would've wanted to pay but after a coupon, a small store credit and not having to pay shipping, it may have evened out. I brought them home and did a trial run of my table..........I LOVE IT!!!! I'm so excited!

I took some quick photos with my camera - still, it's such an improvement over my table from last year. Hopefully I'll have enough inventory to fill it (still working today and the show's tomorrow!!!!)

Thanks so much for your help, all. Happy Thanksgiving!
